సుందరకాండ.
అథ ద్విషష్టితమస్సర్గః||

తానువాచ హరిశ్రేష్ఠో హనుమాన్ వానరర్షభః|
అవ్యగ్రమనసో యూయం మధుసేవత వానరాః||1||
అహమావారయిష్యామి యుష్మాకం పరిపంథినః|

స|| హరిశ్రేష్ఠః వానరర్షభః హనుమాన్ తాన్ ఉవాచ|వానరాః యూయం అవ్యగ్రమనసః మధుసేవత||యుష్మాకం పరిపన్థినః అహం ఆవారయిష్యామి ||

Hanuman, the best among Vanaras spoke to them. 'Oh Vanaras! Without any fear take the honey. I will prevent anybody who objects to your actions'.

శ్రుత్వా హనుమతో వాక్యం హరీణాం ప్రవరోఽఙ్గదః||2||
ప్రత్యువాచ ప్రసన్నాత్మా పిబంతు హరయో మధు|
అవశ్యం కృతకార్యస్య వాక్యం హనుమతో మయా||3||
అకార్యమపి కర్తవ్యం కిమంగ పునరీదృశమ్

స|| హనుమతః వాక్యం శ్రుత్వా అఙ్గదః ప్రవరః హరీణాం ప్రత్యువాచ| హరయః మధు ప్రసన్నాత్మాపిబంతు||కృతకార్యస్య హనుమతః వాక్యం అకార్యం అపి అవశ్యం కర్తవ్యం | ఈదృశం పునః కిమంగ||

Hearing the words of Hanuman, the distinguished Angada replied. "Oh Vanaras ! You may drink happily. With accomplished Hanuman's words even a forbidden work shall surely be done. What to say of this kind of work ( drinking honey)'.

అఙ్గదస్య ముఖాచ్ఛ్రుత్వా వచనం వానరర్షభాః||4||
సాధు సాధ్వితి సంహృష్టా వానరాః ప్రత్యపూజయన్|
పూజయిత్వాఙ్గదం సర్వే వానరా వానరర్షభమ్||5||
జగ్ముర్మధువనం యత్ర నదీవేగ ఇవ ద్రుమమ్|

స|| వానరర్షభాః వానరాః అంగదస్య ముఖాత్ వచనం శ్రుత్వా సంహృష్టాః సాధు సాధ్వితి ప్రత్యపూజయన్|| సర్వే వానరాః అంగదం పూజయిత్వా యత్ర మధువనం (తత్ర) జగ్ముః నదీ వేగః ద్రుమమ్ ఇవ ||

The bulls among Vanaras, hearing those words from Angada, very much delighted praised him saying 'very good very good'. All the Vanaras praising Angada quickly moved into Madhuvanam, like the trees in fast flowing river.

తే ప్రవిష్టా మధువనం పాలానాక్రమ్య వీర్యతః||6||
అతిసర్గాచ్చ పటవో దృష్ట్వా శ్రుత్వా చ మైథిలీం|
పపుస్సర్వే మధు తదా రసవత్ఫల మాదదుః||7||
ఉత్పత్య చ తతః సర్వే వనపాలాన్ సమాగతాన్|
తాడయంతిస్మ శతశస్సక్తాన్ మధువనే తదా||8||

స|| మైథిలీం దృష్ట్వా శ్రుత్వా అతిసర్గాచ్చ మధువనం ప్రవిష్టాః| పాలాన్ వీర్యతః ఆక్రమ్య తదా మధుః పపుః | రసవత్ ఫలం ఆదదుః||తదా సర్వే సక్తాన్ సమాగతాన్ మధువనే ఉత్పత్య తతః వనపాలాన్ శతశః తాడయంతిస్మ||

Having seen Maithili and overjoyed with success they entered the Madhuvanam. Having violently attacked the guards they then drank honey and ate tasty fruits. Then all the Vanaras rising up, came together and hit the forest guards in many ways.

మధూణి ద్రోణమాత్రాణి బాహుభిః పరిగృహ్య తే|
పిబంతి సహితాః సర్వే నిఘ్నంతి స్మ తథా పరే||9||
కేచిత్పీత్వాఽపవిధ్యంతి మధూని మధుపిఙ్గళాః|
మధూచ్ఛిష్టేన కేచిచ్చ జఘ్నురన్యోన్యముత్కటాః||10||
అపరే వృక్షమూలే తు శాఖాం గృహ్య వ్యవస్థితాః|
అత్యర్థం చ మదగ్లానాః పర్ణాన్యాస్తీర్య శేరతే||11||

స|| తే సర్వే బహుభిః ద్రోణమాత్రాణి మధూని పరిగృహ్య సహితాః పిబన్తి| అపరే నిఘ్నన్తి చ||మధుపింగళాః కేచిత్ మధూని పీత్వా మధూచ్ఛిష్టేన ఉత్కటాః అన్యోన్యం ప్రవిధ్యన్తి జగ్ముః|| అపరే శాఖాం గృహ్య వృక్షమూలే వ్యస్థితాః| అత్యర్థం మదగ్లానాః పర్ణాని ఆస్తీర్య శేరతే||

All of them took hold of large amounts of honey and drank. Other were preventing the guards. Some of the Vanaras afterbdrinking honey intoxicated by chunks of honey combs, went about pushing each other. Others took hold of branches of the tree to steady themselves. Due to excessive sweet drinks, some of them laid down spreading the leaves.

ఉన్మత్తభూతాః ప్లవగా మధుమత్తాశ్చ హృష్టవత్|
క్షిపంతి చ తదాన్యోఽన్యం స్ఖలంతి చ తథాఽపరే||12||
కేచిత్ క్ష్వేళాం ప్రకుర్వంతి కేచిత్కూజంతి హృష్టవత్|
హరయో మధునా మత్తః కేచిత్ సుప్తా మహీతలే||13||
కృత్వా కేచిత్ దసంత్యన్యే కేచిత్ కుర్వంతి చేతరత్
కృత్వా కేచిత్ వదంత్యన్యే కేచిత్ బుధ్యంతి చేతరత్||14||

స|| మధుమత్తాః ప్లవగాః ఉన్మత్తభూతాః హృష్టవత్ అన్యోన్యం క్షిపన్తి |అపరే స్ఖలంతి చ||కేచిత్ క్ష్వేళాం ప్రకుర్వన్తి | కేచిత్ హృష్టవత్ కూజన్తి|మధునా మత్తాః కేచిత్ హరయః మహీతలే సుప్తాః||కేచిత్ కృత్వా హసన్తి| అన్యే కేచిత్ ఇతరమ్ కుర్వన్తి| కేచిత్ కృత్వా వదన్తి| కేచిత్ అన్యే ఇతరత్ బుధ్యన్తి||

Intoxicated Vanaras, like mad people, were joyfully pushing each other. Some others were unsteady. Some others roared. Some happily cooed like birds. Intoxicated by the drink some Vanaras slept on the ground. Some were laughing. Some others did some thing else. Some were talking after drinking. Some others were perceiving something else.

యేఽప్యత్ర మధుపాలాస్స్యుః ప్రేష్యా దధిముఖస్య తు|
తేఽపి తైర్వానరైర్భీమైః ప్రతిషిద్ధా దిశో గతాః||15||
జానుభిస్తు ప్రకృష్టాశ్చ దేవమార్గం ప్రదర్శితాః|
అబ్రువన్ పరమోద్విగ్నా గత్వా దధిముఖం వచః||16||

స|| అత్ర దధిముఖస్య ప్రేష్యాః మధుపాలాః యే స్యుః తే అపి భీమైః వానరైః ప్రతిషిద్ధాః దిశః గతాః ||జానుభిః ప్రకృష్టాః దేవమార్గం ప్రదర్శితాః | పరమోద్విగ్నాః దధిముఖం గత్వా వచః అబ్రువన్ ||

There the guards of the Madhuvanam sent by Dadhimukha as a cover were driven away in all directions. Some were dragged with their knees and thrown into the sky. Greatly disturbed the guards went and spoke to Dadhimukha.

హనుమతా దత్తవరైర్హతం మధువనం బలాత్|
వయం చ జానుభిః కృష్టా దేవమార్గం చ దర్శితాః||17||
తతో దధిముఖః క్రుద్ధో వనపస్తత్ర వానరః|
హతం మధువనం శ్రుత్వా సాంత్వయామాస తాన్ హరీన్||18||

స|| హనుమతా దత్తవరైర్హతం వయం చ మధువనం జానుభిః బలాత్ కృష్టా దేవమార్గం చ దర్శితాః ||తత్ః తత్ర దధిముఖః వానరః కృద్ధః మధువనం హతం (ఇతి) శ్రుత్వా హరీణ్ సాన్త్వయామాస||

' Permitted by Hanuman to enter Madhuvanam, we were forcefully shown the sky way by holding our knees' . Then the Dadhimukha was angry with Vanaras. Having heard that Madhuvanam was destroyed he said soothing words ( to the guards).

ఇహాగచ్ఛత గచ్ఛామో వానరాన్ బలదర్పితాన్|
బలేన వారయిష్యామో మధు భక్షయతో వయమ్|| 19||
శ్రుత్వా దధిముఖ స్యేదం వచనం వానరర్షభాః|
పునర్వీరా మధువనం తేనైవ సహసా యుయుః||20||
మధ్యే చైషాం దధిముఖః ప్రగృహ్య తరసా తరుమ్|
సమభ్యధావత్ వేగేన తే చ సర్వే ప్లవంగమాః||21||

స||ఇహ ఆగచ్ఛత| గచ్చామః వయం బలదర్పితాన్ మధుభక్షయతః వానరాన్ బలేన వారయిష్యామః||వానరర్షభాః దధిముఖస్య ఇదం వచనం శ్రుత్వా సహసా తేనైవ పునః మధువనం యయుః||ఏషాం మధ్యే తరసా దధిముఖః తరుం ప్రగృహ్య వేగేన సమభ్యధావత్ తే సర్వే ప్లవంగమాః చ||

' Come here. We will go and forcibly prevent those Vanaras proud of their power, and drinking honey' . The bulls among Vanaras hearing those words of Dadhimukha again immediately went to Madhuvanam. On their way the energetic Dadhimukha took one tree and all the Vanaras too followed.

తే శిలాః పాదపాంశ్చాపి పర్వతాంశ్చాపి వానరాః|
గృహీత్వాభ్యగమన్ క్రుద్ధా యత్ర తే కపికుంజరాః||22||
తే స్వామివచనం వీరాహృదయే ష్యవసజ్య తత్|
త్వరయా హ్యభ్యధావంత సాలతాల శిలాయుధాః||23||
వృక్షస్థాంచ తలస్థాంచ వానరాన్ బలదర్పితాన్|
అభ్యక్రామం స్తతో వీరాః పాలాస్తత్ర సహస్రశః||24||

స|| తే వానరాః క్రుద్ధాః శిలాః పాదపాంశ్చ పర్వతాంశ్చ గృహీత్వా తే కపికుంజరాః యత్ర తత్ర అభ్యగమన్||వీరాః తే తత్ స్వామివచనం హృదయేషు అవస్జ్య సాలతాలశిలాయుధాః త్వరయా అభ్యధావన్త||తతః వీరాః పాలాః సహస్రశః వృక్షాస్థాంశ్చ తలాస్థాంశ్చబలదర్పితాన్ వానరాన్ అభ్యక్రమన్||

The angry Vanara guards took rocks, trees and even big boulders and the elephant among Vanaras Dadhimukha went to the Madhuvanam. The heroic guards keeping their leaders words in the heart went with Sala Tala trees as weapons rushed at once. Then the heroic guards in their thousands attacked the proud Vanaras who were on the trees and under the trees.

అథ దృష్ట్వా దధిముఖం క్రుద్ధం వానరపుంగవాః|
అభ్యధావంత వేగేన హనుమత్ప్రముఖాః తదా||25||
తం సవృక్షం మహాబాహుం అపతంతం మహాబలమ్|
ఆర్యకం ప్రాహరత్తత్ర బాహుభ్యాం కుపితోఽఙ్గదః||26||
మదాంధశ్చన వేదైన మార్యకోఽయం మమేతి సః|
అథైనం నిష్పిపేషాశు వేగేవత్ వసుధాతలే||27||

స|| అథ హనుమత్ప్రముఖాః వానరపుంగవాః తదా దధిముఖం క్రుద్ధం దృష్ట్వా వేగేన అభ్యధావంత||కుపితః అంగదః సవృక్షం మహాబాహుం మహాబలం ఆపతంతం తం ఆర్యకమ్ తత్ర బాహుభ్యాం ప్రాహరత్||సః మదాంధస్య అయమ్ మమ ఆర్యకః ఇతి ఏనం న వేద | అథ ఏనం వసుధాతలే వేగవత్ ఆశు నిష్పిపేష||

Then the Hanuman and other leaders among Vanaras seeing the angry Dadhimukha came quickly. Then angry Angada seeing the powerful strong armed elderly one coming with a tree held him tightly with his hands. Blinded with power he did not realize that he is his elder. Then he pushed him onto the ground speedily.

స భగ్న బాహూరుభుజో విహ్వలః శోణితోక్షితః|
ముమోహ సహసా వీరో ముహూర్తం కపికుంజరః||28||
స సమాశ్వాస సహసా సంక్రుద్ధో రాజమాతులః|
వానరాన్ వారయామాస దండేన మధుమోహితాన్||29||
స కథంచిత్ విముక్తః తైః వానరైర్వానరర్షభః|
ఉవాచైకాంత మాశ్రిత్య భృత్యాన్ స్వాన్ సముపాగతాన్ ||30||

స|| భగ్నబాహూరుభుజః శోణితోక్షితః విహ్వలః సః వీరః కపికుంజరః సహసా ముహూర్తం ముమోహ||రాజమాతులః సః సహసా సమాశ్వస్య సంక్రుద్ధః మధుమోహితాన్ వానరాన్ దణ్డేన వారయామాస||తైః వానరైః కథంచిత్ విముక్తః సః వానరర్షభః ఏకాన్తం ఆశ్రిత్య సముపాగతాన్ స్వాన్ భృత్యాన్ ఉవాచ||

With shoulders and arms hurt, battered, soaked with blood , that heroic elephant among Vanaras , Dadhimukha ,lost consciousness for a moment. The furious maternal uncle of the king quickly recovering , chased the intoxicated Vanaras with a stick. Somehow escaping from the Vanaras , Dadhimukha ,the bull among Vanaras moved to a secluded place spoke to his followers who followed him.

ఏతే తిష్ఠంతు గచ్ఛామో భర్తానో యత్ర వానరః|
సుగ్రీవో విపులగ్రీవః సహ రామేణ తిష్ఠతి||31||
సర్వం చైవాంగదే దోషం శ్రావయిష్యామి పార్థివే|
అమర్షీ వచనం శ్రుత్వా ఘాతయిష్యతి వానరాన్||32||
ఇష్టం మధువనం హ్యేతత్ సుగ్రీవస్య మహాత్మనః|
పితృపైతామహం దివ్యం దేవైరపి దురాసదమ్||33||

స||ఏతే తిష్ఠన్తు నః భర్తా వానరః విపులగ్రీవః సుగ్రీవః యత్ర రామేణ సహ తిష్ఠతి (తత్ర) గచ్ఛామః|| అంగదే సర్వం దోషం పార్థివే శ్రావయిష్యామి|వచనం శ్రుత్వా అమర్షివానరాన్ ఘాతయిష్యతి||పితృపైతామహం దివ్యం దేవైరపి దురాసదమ్ ఏతత్ మధువనం మహాత్మనః పార్థివస్య హి||

' Let them stay. We will go where our broad necked king Sugriva is sitting with Rama. We will let him know all the mistakes of Angada. Hearing those words, he being very furious ,will put an end. This wonderful Madhuvanam belongs to the revered king , coming from the forefathers it is inaccessible even for Devas'.

స వానరన్ ఇమాన్ సర్వాన్ మధులుభ్దాన్ గతాయుషః|
ఘాతయిష్యంతి దండేన సుగ్రీవః ససుహృజ్జనాన్||34||
వధ్యా హ్యేతే దురాత్మనో నృపజ్ఞా పరిభావినః|
అమర్ష ప్రభవో రోషః సఫలో నో భవిష్యతి||35||

స|| సః సుగ్రీవః మధులుబ్ధాన్ గతాయుషః స సుహృత్‍జ్జనాన్ ఇమాన్ సర్వాన్ వానరాన్ ఘాతయిష్యతి ||ఏతే దురాత్మనః నృపజ్ఞాపరిభావినః వధ్యాః హి | అమర్షప్రభవః నః రోషః సఫలః భవిష్యతి||

' That Sugriva will punish all these Vanaras and their friends who are greedy for honey and are doomed. These evil minded ones who disobeyed king's orders are fit to be killed. That way our forbearance and fury will be fruitful '.

ఏవముక్త్వా దధిముకో వనపాలాన్ మహాబలః|
జగామ సహసోత్పత్య వనపాలైః సమన్వితః||36||
నిమిషాంతరమాత్రేణ సహి ప్రాప్తో వనాలయః|
సహస్రాంశుసుతో ధీమాన్ సుగ్రీవో యత్ర వానరః||37||

స|| మహాబలః దధిముఖః వనపాలాన్ ఏవం ఉక్త్వా సహసా వనపాలైః సమన్వితః ఉత్పత్య జగామ||సః వనాలయః సహస్రాంశు సుతః ధీమాన్ సుగ్రీవః వానరః యత్ర (తత్ర) నిమిషాన్తరమాత్రేణ ప్రాప్తః|

Having told thus to the forest guards , the mighty Dadhimukha rose up along with the forest guards and went. In a moment Dadhimukha reached the place where Sugriva the son of Sungod is present.

రామం చ లక్ష్మణం చైవ దృష్ట్వా సుగ్రీవ మేవ చ|
సమప్రతిష్ఠాం జగతీం ఆకాశాన్ నిపపాత హ||38||

స|| రామం చ లక్ష్మణం చ ఏవ సుగ్రీవం ఏవ చ దృష్ట్వా ఆకాశాత్ సమప్రతిష్ఠాం జగతీం నిపపాత||

Seeing Rama , Lakshmana and Sugriva from the sky , he landed on an even ground.

సన్నిపత్య మహావీర్యః సర్వైః తైః పరివారితః|
హరిర్దధిముఖః పాలైః పాలానాం పరమేశ్వరః||39||
స దీనవదనో భూత్వా కృత్వా శిరసి చాంజలిమ్|
సుగ్రీవస్య శుభౌ మూర్ధ్నా చరణౌ ప్రత్యపీడయత్||40||

స|| సర్వైః తైః పాలైః పరివారితః పాలానామ్ పరమేశ్వరః హరిః మహావీర్యః దధిముఖః దీనవదనః శిరసి అంజలిమ్ కృత్వా సన్నిపత్య సుగ్రీవస్య శుభే చరణౌ మూర్ధ్నా ప్రత్యపీడయత్ ||

Surrounded by all those guards, Dadhimukha bowed with his head to the king who is the leader of all Vanaras and is a great hero. Dadhimukha with a piteous face approached Sugriva and placed his forehead at his feet.

ఇత్యార్షే శ్రీమద్రామాయణే ఆదికావ్యే వాల్మీకీయే
చతుర్వింశత్ సహస్రికాయాం సంహితాయామ్
శ్రీమత్సుందరకాండే ద్విషష్టితమస్సర్గః ||

Thus ends Sarga sixty two of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first poem evert composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki.
